Meet the Makers – Roy, The Tea Man
From Corporate Boardrooms to Tea Gardens — The Story of Roy, The Tea Man
My name is Prajnan Kumar Roy. Most people know me as Roy, The Tea Man.
I am an engineer by training — a graduate of Assam Engineering College, one of the oldest and most respected technical institutions in Northeast India. For 18 years, I worked in leadership roles across top multinationals in the chocolate and beverage industries. I understood supply chains, consumer behaviour, quality benchmarks, and the ruthless logic of scale.
And yet, through all of it, I never stopped thinking about tea.
The River That Named a Brand
I grew up in Assam. My earliest memories are not of factory floors or spreadsheets — they are of misty mornings, the smell of wet earth, and a cup of strong, bold tea that my mother brewed without fuss and without shortcuts.
Riverbeki takes its name from the River Beki — a northern tributary of the mighty Brahmaputra. Born in the Sub-Himalayas, the Beki flows through the Manas Tiger Reserve, one of India's most pristine and protected natural corridors. It is a river that knows no compromise. It does not meander. It does not dilute.
That is the spirit of this brand.
Why I Left the Corporate World to Build Riverbeki
After nearly two decades in the industry, I had seen how good tea gets lost — blended beyond recognition, labelled with geography it never came from, marketed more than it was tasted. I had watched the finest leaves from Assam's upper valleys and Darjeeling's high-altitude gardens disappear into mass-market commodities.
I wanted to do the opposite.
I returned to my roots — literally. I went back to the estates, built direct relationships with growers, and learned to taste, source, and curate with the rigour of an engineer and the instinct of someone raised on real Assam tea.
Riverbeki was born from that decision.
What Riverbeki Stands For
Riverbeki is not a marketplace. It is not a mass retailer. It is a carefully curated, single-origin tea brand built on three uncompromising values:
- Purity. Every tea we offer is 100% unblended — sourced from a single estate, a single region, a single harvest.
- Origin. We work directly with premium Assam CTC gardens in Upper Assam and high-elevation Darjeeling estates in the Himalayan foothills — no middlemen, no dilution.
- Intention. We craft teas for people who choose what they drink — not out of habit, but out of genuine appreciation.
We are an ODOP (One District One Product) certified Assam tea brand, recognised for our commitment to regional authenticity and quality.
A Journey Recognised — From Guwahati to Rashtrapati Bhawan
The work has been noticed beyond the marketplace. I have had the honour of being invited to Rashtrapati Bhawan and of representing Assam Tea on national and international platforms. These are not moments I take lightly — they are reminders of what is at stake when we choose to honour a tradition rather than exploit it.
Assam and Darjeeling produce some of the finest teas on earth. They deserve to reach the right cups — unaltered, unblended, and unapologetically themselves.
What You Can Expect from Riverbeki
When you order from Riverbeki, you are not buying a commodity. You are buying a story — of a specific garden, a specific season, a specific craft. Every pack we ship from Delhi NCR carries that story to your door, anywhere in India.
- Premium Assam CTC teas — bold, malty, and deeply satisfying for your daily kadak chai
- High-elevation Darjeeling teas — delicate, complex, and unmistakably from the Himalayan foothills
- Rare white teas — Silver Needle, White Peony — once-a-year harvests for those who drink with discernment
- Export-quality leaves, direct from source — no blends, no additives, no compromise
This is not tea for everyone. This is tea for those who refuse to settle.
