Second flush Darjeeling is harvested between June and August, after the spring rains. The leaves are more mature, the body fuller, and the flavour deeper than first flush. But what truly defines this season — what tea connoisseurs travel thousands of miles to find — is the muscatel character. A complex, layered note that suggests dried fruit, stone, sometimes apricot or grape, sometimes something faintly woody and warm.
