The Riverbeki Golden Tippy is an FTGFOP-1 grade second flush Assam orthodox black tea — and if that sounds like a lot of letters, here is what they mean in the cup.

Deep amber to copper. A warm, full malt with a natural sweetness from the abundant golden tips — the unopened bud that carries the softest, most refined part of the Assam character. A clean finish, longer than CTC, with none of the sharp edge that blended black teas often leave behind. This is Assam at its most considered.

What Is FTGFOP-1?

Finest Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe, First Grade. It is one of the highest classifications in orthodox tea grading — indicating full whole leaves, an abundant proportion of golden tips, and exceptional quality in the cup. Not a marketing term. An actual grade, applied at the source.

• Whole Leaf, Not Ground or Cut — Orthodox processing rolls the leaf rather than shredding it. The result is a brew with more complexity and a longer, more satisfying finish.
• Abundant Golden Tips — The unopened first bud, rich in natural sweetness and depth. High tip content is one of the clearest signs of premium orthodox quality.
• Second Flush Assam — Peak season, maximum body and malt. The boldest window of the Assam tea calendar.
• Single Origin, No Additives — Pure Assam orthodox. No blending, no flavouring, nothing added.
• Rich in Natural Antioxidants — Whole leaf orthodox retains more of its natural polyphenol content than broken grades. Supports heart health, energy, and sustained alertness.

How to Brew: 90–95°C water, 3 minutes, 2.5g per 200ml. Can be enjoyed with a little milk or completely black. The second steep is often as rewarding as the first.
